And we read the bonus terms all the way down: the wagering multiplier, the game weighting, the maximum bet allowed while a bonus is active, and the cap on what free spins can pay out. That last group is where most of the disappointment in this industry lives, and almost none of it is on the landing page.

What to know before you play
The same slot can pay differently at different casinos
This is the part of online slots almost nobody is told, and it’s worth knowing before anything else.
A slot’s RTP — return to player — is what it gives back across millions of spins. 96.2% means $96.20 returned per $100 wagered, over the long run and emphatically not over your session. Most players know that much.
What they don’t know is that a lot of popular slots ship in more than one RTP version, and the casino chooses which one to run. The same game, identical artwork, identical sounds, identical bonus round, can be 96.5% at one casino and 94.0% at another. Nothing on screen tells you which one you’re playing unless you look.
You can look. Open the game, click the “i” or menu button, and find the information screen — the live RTP is stated there. It takes ten seconds and it’s the only way to know what you’re actually playing. If a casino runs the low version of everything, that’s worth knowing before you deposit, not after.
Volatility decides what the session feels like
RTP tells you how much comes back. Volatility tells you how it arrives, and it’s the number that decides whether you enjoy yourself.
A low-volatility slot pays small and often. A high-volatility slot pays nothing for long stretches and then occasionally pays a great deal. Two games can have exactly the same RTP and feel like completely different hobbies — and a high-volatility game will empty a small balance long before it reaches the part you’re playing for.
Match the volatility to your deposit, not to the jackpot. If you’re playing $20, a game that goes 300 spins between features isn’t going to show you its good side.
Four things to check before you deposit anywhere
Withdrawal time, not deposit time. Deposits are instant everywhere — nobody has ever been kept waiting to give a casino money. Withdrawals are where casinos differ, and where the pending period hides. A 48-hour pending window is 48 hours in which you can reverse your own cashout and put it back into play. That’s what it’s designed for. Find out the pending period before you deposit.
Verify your identity on day one. Upload ID and proof of address when you open the account, while nothing is riding on it. Every licensed casino asks eventually, and doing it up front removes the most common single cause of a delayed first withdrawal.
Wagering, converted into money. “45x” means nothing until you multiply it. Forty-five times a $250 bonus is $11,250 of wagering, and on a 96% RTP slot you’d expect to hand back around $450 getting there. A bonus is not free money — it’s a longer session with conditions. You’re usually allowed to decline it and just deposit, and if you plan to withdraw quickly you probably should.
Read the restricted-games list and the max-bet rule. Two clauses void more bonuses than anything else: playing a game that doesn’t count while wagering, and betting above the bonus maximum stake. Both are in the terms. Neither is on the landing page.
